Volcanoes are among the most dramatic forces on our planet — and among the hardest to visit safely. This world brings those places to you. You begin deep inside the molten engine of Earth, then move out onto active volcanic landscapes where lava, steam and ash transform the ground in real time. Each scene is designed to feel immediate: look around in every direction, follow the narration, and tap hotspots to uncover the science behind what you are seeing.
On the living edge of the Pacific and Atlantic, you stand beside an active volcanic fissure in Iceland and walk the slopes of Kīlauea in Hawaii as lava advances across the land. Mount Etna shows a moderate eruption in progress — a reminder that Europe’s tallest active volcano is never truly quiet. Between eruptions you explore quieter but equally powerful places: Iceland’s geothermal landscape, where heat from below drives geysers and hot springs, and Yellowstone’s Grand Prismatic Spring, where minerals and heat-loving microbes paint the water in extraordinary colours.
History is written in ash as well as lava. Step into the aftermath of Mount St. Helens in 1980, when a lateral blast flattened forests for kilometres. Witness the scale of Krakatoa’s 1883 eruption — one of the loudest and most globally felt events in recorded history — and stand before Vesuvius as it buries the cities of the Bay of Naples. The journey ends underground, inside a gigantic volcanic lava tube formed when molten rock drained away and left a hollow tunnel behind.
